There are two local universities of science and engineering field in Singapore :
Since its founding in 1905,
NUS has evolved into a comprehensive university offering courses in major disciplines such as the Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Law, Arts & Social Sciences and Medicine.
NTU was set up in 1981 to provide facilities for tertiary education and research in engineering and technology. It has since incorporated the National Institute of Education (NIE) "the teachers' college" and expanded to include Accountancy, Business and Communication Studies.

Research-based programmes

Excellent opportunities are available for students to be immersed in a vibrant research-intensive environment in any departments/divisions of its university in the pursuit of a higher degree leading to:

These higher degrees are awarded based on coursework and supervised research on an approved topic, culminating in the submission of a thesis.
Coursework-based programmesThe Master of Science (M.Sc.) programmes, conducted in the evenings and aimed at working professionals, are designed for university graduates who wish to advance their knowledge and careers in their chosen field of specialisation.
The M.Sc. degrees are awarded once the candidates pass the relevant examinations and achieve a minimum level of proficiency in the examinations.
